What is Michigan Mille?

The Michigan Mille is a 1000 mile four day rally for sports and classic cars. We have been operating since 2006 and we have grown each year since then. What started out as a thought in the minds of four Chrysler executives  looking to exercise their old cars, has turned into one of the premier car rallies in the US. June 2014 was the ninth year of our event and we had 60 enthusiasts join us from all over the country, we even had one participant from Australia. Our original concept was simple, we did not want to spend the approximately $5000 entry fee plus vehicle shipping costs to participate in one of the better known, advertised events. Why couldn’t we create our own utilizing the back roads in and around Michigan and have everyone pay their own hotel and meal costs and we would then charge a small entry fee ($150-$200) to help cover our costs. We have been successful in negotiating discounts for meals and hotels and we pass along those savings to the participants. We believe our program is equal to the big name events without the big cost.

We are currently planning the tenth running of our event. It will be held June 13-16, 2015 and we will be heading to Traverse City Michigan. Those that have participated in the past we be receiving their invitations shortly. If you are interested in attending, let us know and we will add your name to our distribution list

Our growth has come from word of mouth. We do no advertising and yet each year we get  more interest due primarily to past participants touting our event. If you think you would have interest in joining us one year, drop us a note and we will be happy to fill you in on the details. We will continue to update this website with more details about past and future events so keep checking back with us from time to time.

If you have an old car and would like to get it out and exercise it on some back roads along with a bunch of like minded “car guys” why not join us for an upcoming event?

    • Don,

Welcome, we have had a couple of M3’s on the event, last year we had two including a Dinan M3, fantastic performance. Great cars for the Mille.

  5. I have a 65 Mustang convertible, and have been looking for a local road rally. I’d love to know more for the 2014 MI Mile.

Thanks! Please let me know if you have the room – Oxford, Mi – Steve

  6. Looking for details or possible mailing list for your event. I unfortunately cannot find your facebook page, just one for the “other” Michigan Mile. I currently have a 79 Corvette, and my best friend is putting together an 87 Scirocco 16V. We’ve always got interesting project cars to mess around with, and would love to keep updated on your event(s).

  7. I like the cloverleaf idea so we wouldn’t have to pack up luggage every morning, especially with a ’60 T-bird convertible, which has no trunk when the top is down. Would you consider that car, or maybe a ’64 Ford (Falcon-based) Ranchero? Thanks!

    • David,
While I too prefer the cloverleaf, it is a little limiting in the distance it allows us to travel. This year we are headed to Indianapolis and that is simply too far from our base in Southeastern Michigan to handle in a cloverleaf pattern. Either of the two cars you mention would be great Mille candidates.
      Steve

      • Thanks. The Ranchero always carries a floor jack, and we’re good about sharing! Has a date been set yet? June is getting busy, with Motor Muster, Back to the Bricks Michiania Tour, etc.

        • David,

We are unfortunately sold out this year. Having the Ranchero on future events would be great. I will add your email address to our list for all future events.

  9. I have lived in Germany for the past nine years and will be moving to Grosse Pointe in November. I have a 1966 Triumph TR4A which I will be bringing with me. I would love to have information about the 2015 Mille and any other events you may organize.

    • Dennis, Welcome back to the US. We just finished our 2014 event and are already looking forward to creating a very special program in 2015 as it will be our tenth anniversary. I will put you on our list for potential participants in 2015 and will email you the plans in the fourth quarter. The TR 4 would be a great car to run the Mille in. This year we had a wonderful TR 6.

We will add your name to our list of interested participants for our next event in 2016. You can expect the first communication in the fall. Regarding your question about age of cars, we prefer cars that are at least 25 years old, although we do allow modern sports cars on occasion. Thanks for your interest.

  14. Hi,

I have just seen all of your participants for this years event in Traverse City and it look like a lot of fun. I have a modified Subaru Forester Turbo that is a blast to drive but still super practical to just throw my bike in the back and go for a bike ride. I know it may not be your cup of tea for car choice but I always just like to go for a cruise and hopefully bring some friends along. I hope for an invite for next year.

    Thanks,

    Bryan.

    • Bryan,

We are adding your name to our list of interested participants. Look for our first email about next years event in the late fall.
